been thinking again about some potential TransMichigan unsuported race. 250 or so miles. something that could potentially at least be finished in 48 hours. Say, a saturday midnight start somewhere near grand rapids. Blaze north, with a final "sprint" finish down the White Pines Trail from Cadilac back to the Grand Rapids area.
I have followed the bikeable portions of the NCT all the way from their headquarters in Lowell to Mesick. Unforetuneatly can't find my original maps marking the bikeable portions and didn't have a GPS to record my route.
Yes, I've been thinking about 'publicizing' this for quite some time. My initial thoughts are that it should be long enough to require the strongest riders to be required to sleep at least once. This would keep the entries, and I believe attrition, low. Grand Rapids -> White Cloud -> NCT to Mac City -> Grand Rapids (via rail trail and roads) seems like it would suffice. I've also constructed a track starting in WC and going to Mesick and back. ~220 miles. However, I figure a strong rider should be able to complete that in around 24 hours. Mid pack XC riders like myself- two days.
